An excellent analysis and well-written. I think you hone in on the key questions here and I hope we get to see Desmet answer them.

Thank you. You clarified and expressed my concern/question.

I'm also uncomfortable with the pace in which Desmet's ascension occurred - and in no small part to Malone - who I have some unease with given his past and present associations.

I am open, don't wish to jump to rash conclusions and assume positive intent until proven otherwise. You've written, far better than I could have why we should slow down, consider the picture in a larger frame and avoid collapsing into good VS bad, right VS wrong camps.
